1. What do you sell and who do you sell to?
With more than 1,000 locations worldwide, Carpet One Floor & Home’s independently-owned and operated stores continue to lead the retail flooring industry. What is your yearly trade show schedule? We have two conventions a year that run three days. These conventions are exclusively for our members (store owners) and their staff, and not open to the public. 3. What’s your biggest sales challenge? Our challenge is utilizing a short amount of time at each convention to update our members on the new products, programs and offers available to them. This is our biggest opportunity to have “face-time” with our members. 4. Tell us about a typical day at a trade show. A typical day at a Carpet One convention consists of classes to educate members on tools and technology to help their businesses, a larger session to provide updates on the business and programs, and exhibit hall floor time for members to purchase product and meet vendors, Carpet One staff and fellow members. 5. How do you use sales order management software at trade shows? How does it make your job easier? We use sales order management software to place Carpet One product program updates for our member stores and locations. We have a very short time to meet with all our members and make sure that they have ordered the products and programs they need for upcoming promotions and business initiatives for the coming months. The software helps us gather this information and make sure that our members receive the appropriate products and programs. 6. Can you share any experience with booth design? Our job at our conventions is to inspire our members/store owners on how to display product to their customers. We design a showroom to show new and current product lines and displays. Other booths are set up for us to meet and engage with our members. 7. People can buy from others – why do they buy from you? Our conventions are designed to give our members the tools and information they need to run their businesses efficiently and provide them access to the best products at competitive prices. This allows them to do what they do best – find the perfect floor for each customer’s need. At Carpet One Floor & Home we empower our members to do what is right for their customers in their local store. 9. What’s the funniest/weirdest thing that has ever happened to you at a trade show? In addition to providing our members with a plethora of useful information, we also try to give them a fun experience. We’ve had everything from baby tigers to dunking booths on our convention floor. It’s always entertaining to see an executive take a dip in some chilly water!
