5 Reasons Why This Sales Rep Is Thankful for Order Management Technology
With Thanksgiving on the horizon (and with it, the promise of family gatherings, holiday traditions, and a surfeit of pie), it’s time to give a little thought to the things I’m thankful for. Being a sales rep on the road has its challenges, which is why, after all the usual points on the “What I’m Thankful For” checklist, the first thing that comes to mind is...sales order management software. I’ll explain. Just read on.
5 Reasons to Be Thankful for Order Management Technology
1. I’m thankful for no longer having my chiropractor on speed-dial.
Gone are the days when I had to haul heavy samples and telephone-book-sized product catalogs into every sales meeting. This means no more heavy suitcases and bags. No more trips to and from the car. No more tragic scenarios involving a bag whose strap snapped, resulting in its contents tumbling onto the asphalt. All I need is my mobile device to store all that product information digitally, and I’m ready to go. My chiropractor is pretty upset about this development, but my back is extremely thankful.
2. I’m thankful for evenings that don’t include an Excel spreadsheet with dinner.
After finishing up all my store visits, the last thing I want to do is re-enter a bunch of orders on my computer. I already wrote those orders once. Writing them all over again just seems like an exercise in tedium--and redundancy. Now I’m sending out orders right after I write them. Which means a shorter workday and more time for some much-needed relaxation.
3. I’m thankful that memorization is no longer part of my job description.
Ah, the joys of memorizing a slew of different new customer-specific discounts, payment terms, and promotions that flood one’s inbox. I haven’t memorized that much information since my last high school history test. Fortunately, all that stuff can be entered into the app and synced to all the reps in the field. My mind is now free for much more interesting pursuits--like actually talking to customers.
4. I’m thankful for surpassing my sales goals at the last fall trade show.
I was writing orders faster than anyone out on that floor, leading to many a jealous glance from surrounding exhibits. I was totally in command the entire day with my iPad in hand, and prospective buyers loved being able to scroll through all the different products we were offering. Their orders were in their inboxes before they even left the booth.
5. I’m thankful for customers who are seriously happy to see me walking into their stores.
My customers love me for several reasons: the order writing process is quick and painless, everything they order from me gets shipped on time (or faster), and they never have to deal with errors in their orders. It all adds up to a stress-free experience, and if that isn’t something to be thankful for, I don’t know what is.
