Central Hardware was a pioneering hardware chain based in St. Louis, MO. It was the first "big box" home improvement store. At its height, Central Hardware was the 19th largest hardware retailer with 39 stores in six states. After many complicated buyouts and mergers, Central Hardware was out of business by 1996.
