MULXIPLY

Minimum $200
Portland, ME
MULXIPLY’s collection of modern accessories and gifts are created by designer Tanja Cesh in Portland, Maine, and made collaboratively with fair wage artists and craftsmen and women in Kathmandu, Nepal. Born in Los Angeles, Tanja spent 20 years in the design and fashion industry in New York and Boston. She left her corporate career in 2010 to further understand the root cause of human trafficking and modern slavery, specifically the role that fast-fashion plays in it. She spent 4 months in Southeast Asia with various artisan groups, relief agencies, and non-profit groups listening to their stories to further understand the important role that dignified employment plays in keeping both men and women out of the vicious cycle of modern-day slavery. As an artist, Tanja sought to understand the solution that the arts could play in not just interrupting the cycle of poverty but also in elevating the artisan and indigenous craft as a vital part of society and history. She spent hours learning about raw materials and heritage techniques and continues to grow MULXIPLY with that same commitment. Although MULXIPLY’s studio and operations are in Portland, Maine, Tanja spends 4-6 weeks each year in Kathmandu working with the artists who bring MULXIPLY’s collection to life. The end-goal being a continual offering of products that are beautiful, modern, and carry a story — elevating art and artisan. MULXIPLY has a retail space and studio in Portland, Maine's West End which currently showcases the brand's entire collection of handmade jewelry, bags, ethically-made apparel and other carefully curated brands with a focus on emerging designers.
