In 2018, I was horrified to learn it was far cheaper for the city to burn the recycling than process it. The fact is, even if you sort your recycling perfectly each week, only 9% of plastic is actually recycled. I tried a few different shampoo bars in my search for zero-waste options - all with terrible results. Nothing worked as well as my liquid shampoo and conditioner. I knew I could do better and that’s when I decided to start Green Ablutions. The name comes from the belief that we should be mindful of the environment in our everyday choices: Green for the Earth and Ablutions meaning washing ourselves with intent. Our society has been very focused on promoting self-care but we can’t care for ourselves without also taking care of the world we live in. Green Ablutions was founded on a promise to make our world a better place. Sustainability isn’t just a buzzword; it’s the foundation of our business. Every vegan, cruelty- free and plastic-free bar replaces up-to 3 plastic bottles. Our zero-waste ensures nothing ends up in landfills or pollution the ocean. All packaging is made from recycled paper printed with vegetable based inks which consumers can either re-recycle or home compost. Our products are delivered using renewable and carbon neutral methods.
