Providers & Protectors. Inspired by the women living and working in the fisherfolk communities of Chennai, Providers and Protectors is a vibrant hued homage to the dual role women play in the sustenance of an economy, and as providers and protectors of households and society.

Osheen Siva is an illustrator and artist from South India. Raised in a mixed environment between Taiwan, China, and India, and currently based in Goa, Siva strives to decipher the question of identity and belonging through her art, which includes experiments in both digital and traditional mediums. Her work is also informed by gender and its intersection with society, technology in conjunction with science fiction and fantasy, mythology, dreams and nightmares. Siva has partaken in festivals in India, Europe, and the US, and she has recently held artist residencies in Sri Lanka and South Korea.

St+art India Foundation is a movement that contributes to urban regeneration and community living through contemporary urban art projects since 2014. The foundation enhances public spaces through art districts, experiential exhibitions, installations, and more. In January 2020, St+art came to Chennai to create an art district in Kannagi Nagar, one of India’s largest slum resettlements, and the home of a former fisherfolk community who were displaced after the 2004 tsunami. 16 international and local artists participated in transforming the area by painting murals in response to the theme of 'People and Environment'. What happens to street art after it's been painted over? This single question led us to create an archival project to rebirth these lost works of art and bring them into peoples hands, homes and hearts. We're female founded and license photographs of murals direct from the artists of which 50% are female. This is intentional, diversity matters. We donate a portion of each sale to Play Together in order to advance their work in providing art scholarships to BIPOC art students and funding new community mural arts projects. Our featured artists and exclusive murals are located all over the world in Los Angeles, France, London, India, and Chicago so far.
